First Post: Mr. Magette

I wanted to give you an idea of what I'm looking for in your first post. Once you've figured out the basics of posting to the blog you're most of the way there. But in order to post your current events summaries, you will need to master the use of hyperlinks and blockquotes. Your first "official" blog post will need to demonstrate your ability to use these tools.

So here's what I want you to do for your first "official" post: share with us an interesting website. Write a paragraph that briefly (in your own words) summarizes the website. Include a hyperlink to the website, and then quote some text either from or about that website. That's it.

Let me give you an example. One of the most important websites for me is the Eudora Schools site. It's full of general information, district news, contact lookups, and a very handy calendar that can be viewed as a daily, weekly, or monthly view. You can also sort it by activity type. And, of course, my class websites are all hosted by the district website. Currently on the district's homepage is a news story about Mr. Pickett and Mrs. Topil attending the regional state teachers of the year banquet:

Eudora teachers of the year Becky Topil and Joe Pickett were recognized at the regional Kansas Teacher of the Year banquet, Sept. 20, at the Overland Park Marriott. The annual event serves to recognize district teachers of the year and announce the regional finalists that will be considered for the state teacher of the year title.

During the banquet, Pickett was also named a semifinalist for the region — the first time a Eudora teacher has ever been recognized in this way. Three semifinalists are selected from the region's pool of applicants at the secondary and elementary levels. The region corresponds to the state's third congressional district and includes the Kansas City metropolitan area and surrounding schools. Pickett's selection as a semifinalist was based on the extensive application packet that all district nominees must submit to the state in April.

Please make sure to keep these posts, and the websites they discuss, school appropriate. Label them "websites." As usual, let me know if you have questions, and please take the time to read and respond to your classmates' posts.
