She was given this name for two reasons. The first is because she had to fight for her life and was like a "warrior" overcoming many obstacles that most doctors said she never would. The "princess" comes from the fact that she loved to wear princess dresses, and would always wave like a princess. Even if a stranger walked past her hospital bed she would wave until you waved back. Some days she was doing so poorly that she could not speak, but still managed to wave or smile just to make everyones day.
When Isabelle was born she was diagnosed with a set of complex heart defects putting her into a classification of "single ventricle".
After struggling with this heart defect for three short years she passed away while waiting for a heart transplant.
This means so much to me because this little girls family now attends my church and I have now become her younger sisters best friend. Though I did not personally know Isabelle, and most of you did not meet her either, I am sure you have heard her story, especially around Thanksgiving of last year. Her story was all over the news.
This last weekend there was a memorial service held for her and her father shared stories of when she was in the hospital, one of which is now engraved on her headstone.
Isabelle gave to the world what the world could not give to her, a heart.
Her father also told of the story about the daycare she attended.
Every morning Isabelle would stand at the door to greet whomever came in. She would always have a smile on her face, and never met a stranger. If you were having a bad day you could just walk into the same room as her and she would have a way to make everything seem better.
Isabelle died on December 11, 2008 she was 3 1/2 years old.
