"We certainly think that it is important to be physically active and to work to
keep our muscles strong," she said. "Good physical health is important for
good brain function."
I think that mental health, and physical health have been proven to have a huge roll in the Alzheimer's disease. I also think that more people in the United States need to get in better shape not only to prevent from getting Alzheimer's disease but to be in better shape all around.
To think that if only you would have worked out just a little bit to prevent Alzheimer's disease would just be heart breaking for me.
ReplyDeleteI know somebody who had Alzheimer's and it was not good. I agree with Caleb on this article. I liked this one.
ReplyDeleteCaleb, this is a pretty good first post. You're topic is exactly what we're looking for and gives a great example of science in action.
ReplyDeleteA few things to work on for next time:
1. You really don't provide much on an explanation about the article. You give the general subject, but don't go much more in depth than that. For instance, you really don't indicate that there was a pretty strong link found between increased muscle strength and a decreased risk of Alzheimer's.
2. Make sure that your original article is linked to in such a way that your readers can easily pick it out. Your post gives the impression that you're linking to the Rush Alzheimer's Center rather than a news article.
3. I would like to see you pick out some stronger vocabulary terms than "strength" and "prevent"
4. Make sure you take care of formatting...i.e, double checking your grammar and sentence structure and tagging the post "current event".

I'm not sure what I think about that. My grandpa was in amazing shape, was very muscular, and worked out on the farm over 9 hours a day and he still got Alzheimers. From reading another blog it was thought that Alzheimers was caused by an inflamed protein in your brain called a cytokine (i think that's what it was called). Maybe there is something pertaining to your physical activity though that might lead to the inflammation in the brain.
ReplyDeletei agree to some extent with this post, since i do believe that a physical shape can help you to prevent many diseases indcluding alzheimers. But i also think that kaya is right in her point, that it cant help you completely, and the risk will always be there.
